Observatory is transforming ocean research and associated technology development with an innovative subsea infrastructure and Internet based access to data and instrumentation from anywhere in the world.
This unique observatory is advancing our knowledge about the oceans – including subsea earthquakes and tsunamis, ocean acidification and marine biodiversity, among others – and holds immense promise for the future. Through the federally funded Ocean Networks Canada Centre for Enterprise and Engagement (ONCCEE), the data, research results and technologies emerging from VENUS and NEPTUNE Canada are being disseminated to policy makers, industry and the general public.

Reporting to a Board of Directors, you will:

– Provide strategic vision and progressive leadership to this growing organization of 60 professionals supporting leading edge ocean research and related knowledge and technology transfer;

– Champion continuing excellence by enhancing network integration and communication, and supporting the researchers’ breakthrough work and technology development;

– Build relationships and partnerships with national and international scientific communities;

– Be the face of the organization, ensuring the Canadian public understand and support the scope and importance of ONC’s work;

– Maintain and develop relationships with federal and provincial governments;

– Identify and secure ongoing funding from the federal and provincial governments to ensure financial sustainability;

– Forge commercial agreements around the organization’s intellectual assets; and

– Be a visible and articulate advocate with a broad and growing array of stakeholders.

Perhaps most important, you will be a galvanizing force, internally and externally, for the advancement of ocean research.

ONC is an equity employer and encourages applications from women, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities, Aboriginal
Peoples, people of all sexual orientations and genders, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of the organization.
