Save Critical Habitat for Endangered Whales and Marine Life

Learn more

U.S. activists: Stop offshore oil and gas drilling in Bristol Bay, Alaska, which is critical habitat for endangered whales and marine life.

Bristol Bay needs to be permanently protected from the high risks of oil and gas development. Offshore drilling there poses multiple risks, from disturbance to whales caused by seismic testing, to the potential for catastrophic oil spills like the Exxon Valdez disaster. Bristol Bay’s notorious winds, powerful seas, variable ice and cold temperatures led the federal Minerals Management Service to predict that drilling there would result in at least one major oil spill, in addition to numerous smaller spills. An oil spill in Bristol Bay would have devastating impacts with little chance of a complete recovery.
